BoringPDF is a free set of 35 PDF tools that run in your web browser. Merge, split, compress, convert, edit, sign and protect PDFs without uploading them anywhere, creating an account or installing anything.

How BoringPDF works

Every tool except the optional AI assistants processes your file on your own device, using engines that run inside the browser. Your file is never sent to a server, so there's no upload wait, no copy left on someone else's computer and nothing to delete afterwards.

Office conversion, OCR and PDF/A download their processing engine the first time you use them. After that, your browser keeps it and later runs start faster.

Why not uploading matters

The documents people most often need to merge, compress or sign are contracts, bank statements, IDs, medical records and job or school applications. Those are exactly the files that shouldn't sit on a stranger's server. BoringPDF never receives your file, so it has nothing to store, share or lose.

Is BoringPDF really free?

Yes. Every tool is free, with no sign-up, no watermarks and no daily task limits. The main limit is file size, set by what a browser can handle. The optional AI tools use your own AI provider key, so that provider may bill you or limit how much you can send.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. Your files are processed by your browser on your own device and are never uploaded. Closing or reloading a tool clears them. The optional AI tools are the one exception to local processing: they send text from your files to the AI provider you connect, as the last answer explains.

How is BoringPDF different from other online PDF tools?

Many online PDF services upload your file to their servers to process it. BoringPDF does the work in your browser instead, so with every tool except the optional AI assistants, your document stays on your device the whole time.

Do I need to install anything or create an account?

No. BoringPDF works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari. Open a tool, add your file and download the result.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes, in current mobile browsers, and Scan to PDF can use your phone's camera. A computer is faster for large files and Office conversions.

Is there a file size limit?

Each file can be up to 100 MB, and the files you add to a tool at once can total up to 200 MB. Large, image-heavy files take longer because your own device does the work. Summarize PDF and Chat with PDF also take at most 10 files at a time.

Do the AI tools upload my PDF?

The PDF file itself is never uploaded. Summarize PDF and Chat with PDF read it in your browser, and when you press Send, your browser sends the provider you connect your question, up to six recent messages from the conversation for context, and text extracted from your files. The tool picks the relevant passages automatically, sends whole documents when they're short, and can send more text if the model asks for it. Chat also sends downscaled copies of images you attach, for models that support them. Nothing passes through BoringPDF. The Privacy Policy has the details.
